Facebook and Bing

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jeremy White @ 11:30 am

Facebook announced it will increase its partnership with Microsoft in order to bring full-featured web search capabilities to their website.  The continued addition of features to social networking sites is reminiscent of the search engine battles from the 90s, when the objective was to become the preferred portal or start page for internet users.  Facebook is also planning to roll out an email service to compete with Gmail, which would then combine social networking, web search and email.  With more than 400 million users, the implications could be more than trivial for Google.  I wonder if this is part of the reason why Google felt the need for a Superbowl ad, or maybe they just wanted to generate some buzz.
